Open Road
20 miles of road
20 years of living
the girl of his dreams
his destination
her words fill his head
" my first time"
lights hit the center line
passion drives all night
(and he) he sees her
he sees her
he sees her...on this open road
on this open road...on this open road
30 miles of road
30 years of living
bride number three
his destination
Her words fill his head
" One more chance"
every mile it takes
every mistake he's made..
He sees her
he sees her
he sees her...on this open road
on this open road
on this open road
50 miles of road
50 years of living
the girl of his dreams
his destination
her words fill his head
"nothing strange"
cash or credit love
the rain hits the signs above...
(and he) he sees her
he sees her
he sees her..
he sees her...on this open road
on this open road
on this open road

Free
There a heart in the stone
there's tears in the wind
there's a river flowing free
I wish that river were me
There's a promise in the sky
and hope in the stars
there's a moon shinning free
I wish that moon were me
I wish that moon were me
The morning train whistles blows
and I've got plenty of things to do
but all I really want is you
is you....is you
There's a beauty in the plains
and healing in the sun
there a cloud sailing free
I wish that cloud were me
I wish that cloud were me
There's a heart in the stone
and tears in the wind
there's a river flowing free
I wish that river were me
I wish that river were me

Robbie's River

Robbie's River
I promised it would never be this way
crying over Robbie in some café
the man with Bible tells me- lets pray
and I think about the preacher -who took Robbie away
Praying to Robbie's river
the only church I've ever known
you can't help who you love
but it's the little minds in little towns that love to judge
With a little work
he can be like him
he can sound like him
With some discipline
we can turn that boy- into a man- into man
Watching Robbie's river
she lays down flowers- once a year
life was never easy for a sweet boy like him
watching Robbie's river - sweep him in
Watching Robbie's River
Watching Robbie's River
Watching Robbie's River

Tracks
You do
what your told
dreaming of a life on the road
So you write
what you know
a lullaby
a story told
We'll be good
we'll be strong
another place - another home
but we'll fight
for the right
to linger in the sweet stage light
So we go on
playing a song
year after year
do you feel what I feel?
do you feel what I feel?
There is no comfort I find
In missing you tonight
But this is our life
We take our place
moving through this choice we made
You stand there
I stand here
the sacrifice is everywhere
We go on
playing a song
year after year
do you feel what I feel?
do you feel what I feel?
We go on
playing a song
year after year
do you feel what I feel?

Oregon
He's got a bottle of whisky and a wedding ring
time to drive no time to sing
give up those dreams
we're getting married in Oregon
Passing though Nebraska on highway 9
the radiator's hissing but were making good time
he says
things will change
life will change
you have to change
after Oregon
In Oregon - I bargained with the night
In Oregon- I gave up the fight
In Oregon - where my music died
He says girls like you belong to everybody
and girls like you belong to nobody
but I'll take you in
I'll take care of you
I'll protect you
after Oregon
I think about the life that I'm giving up
stuck behind a beat-up pickup truck
that says " just married"
Just married- just married
in this Wyoming town
In Oregon - I bargained with the night
In Oregon- I gave up the fight
In Oregon - where my music died
Bought a red notebook and filled it with songs
not going to argue if it's right or wrong
it's what I do
it's what I do
with or without you
it's what I do
it's what I do
it's what I do
with or without you
it's what I do

Something About You
There's Something about you- something you said
Something about you that stays in my head
There's something about - something you did
Something about you that stays in my head
Maybe I'm just a criminal-waiting for her chance
Maybe it's just this beautiful night air
Maybe it's just some fantasy full of light and dark
Maybe it's just court and spark
Something about you- something you said
Something about you that stays in my head
Something about - something you did
Something about you that stays in my head
Maybe you're just a criminal-waiting for your chance
Maybe it's just this beautiful night air
Maybe it's just some fantasy full of light and dark
Maybe it's just court and spark
There's something about you- something you said
Something about you- that stays in my head
There's something about you - something you did
Something about you - that stays in my head
Something about you
makes the world fall away
Something about you
makes the world fall away

Thanksgiving Day

|

Thanksgiving Day
The old farmhouse is still standing strong
and a sweet old woman runs to me
and I can smell the pumpkin pie
a holiday for family pride
And all the old hurt melts away
when I can see the price they paid
they did the very best they could
so I attend because I should
but you never saw my face
you never knew the girl you raised
well with that I guess I'll be on my way
and say a prayer for Thanksgiving Day
I'm a long way from home
such a long long way from home
all the old street are gone
but I'll always find my way back to you
A turkey and all the trimmings
I clutch your hand to get me through
But the truth is when I look at you
all I feel is gratitude
but you never saw my face
you never knew the girl you raised
But I'm OK, I'm doing fine
and I'll be back at Christmas time
I'm a long way from home
all the old street are gone
all the old friends are gone...
but I'll always find my way back to you
I'm a long way from home
all the old street are gone
all the old friends are gone...
but I'll always find my way back to you

Mr. Crazy

Mr. Crazy
There was a life I wanted
there were dreams I started
there was a man I wanted
but crazy got in the way
There's an old man praying to his God
There's young boy playing in the yard
there's a beauty and a grace to live this way
But there's nothing I can do about it
he just walks in the door
there's nothing I can do about it
he just comes and goes
like the rain in a storm swirling around
So I'm going to ride ride ride
drive all night
drive all night until Mr. Crazy's gone
There was a pride I wanted
there was a faith I started
there was a family I wanted
but crazy got in the way
There's the glory of the morning sun
there's the hope to live as one
there's a life I started that I'll end with you
But there's nothing I can do about it
he just walks in the door
there's nothing I can do about it
he just comes and goes
like the rain in a storm swirling around
So I'm going to ride ride ride
drive all night
drive all night until Mr. Crazy's gone
But there's nothing I can do about him
he just walks in the door
there's nothing I can do about him
he just comes and goes
like the rain in a storm swirling around
So I'm going to ride ride ride
drive all night
drive all night until Mr. Crazy
There's a beauty and a grace to live everyday....

FLY
I met you at the corner at the beat up five and dime
we grabbed a cup of coffee like we do
you brought a book of poetry and joked you were in love with me
what can I say to that...oh well!
Imagine if the years were kind
you'd be more then a friend of mine
but I see the tracks right through you shirt
and the promises you make - hurt
What are you going to do when the sun comes up - do you try?
What are you going to do when the rain comes down? Do you fly? Do you Fly?
What are going to do when the sun goes down? Do you try- do you fly away-from me...
We laugh about when we were small-I was wise and you were strong
We always had each other- we still do
I loved you then and I love you now but love is just not suitable
for a man who feels so small
Imagine if the years were kind
you'd be more then a friend of mine
but the coffee spills on your book of poems
and the promises you make- hurt
What are you going to do when the sun comes up - do you try?
What are you going to do when the rain comes down? Do you fly? Do you Fly?
What are going to do when the sun goes down? Do you try- do you fly away-from me...
What are you going to do when the sun comes up - do you try?
What are you going to do when the rain comes down? Do you fly? Do you Fly?
What are going to do when the sun goes down? Do you try- do you fly away-from me...

Third Stone From Heaven
If you see him- let me know
If you hear him- let me know
For all I have- is a car radio- playing Jericho
If you find him - let me know
If you get an answer- let me know
For all I have- is a car radio- playing Jericho
There was a time
He was king of the world
laughing
smiling with his bass strings
But all I have- is a car radio- playing Jericho
Every note touched my soul
I miss you so
If you see him- let me know
If you hear him- let me know
For all I have- is a car radio- Playing Jericho
Every note touched my soul

Walk Away
04:37
|

Walk Away
She don't live there anymore
didn't even leave a note
so you paint the walls dark
and seal up your heart
You’re the strong one now
pick her up- you shut her down
you're not ever going back
to that fine mess she made of your life
If you love her - tell her so
If you need her-find a way
But she's always-too much trouble-so you walk away
So you drive around all that pain
Nothing a pill can't cure
you wear the scars so well
Such power in all that hell
You don’t live there anymore
didn't even leave a note
so she paints the walls black
what a fine mess you made-of her life
If you love her - tell her so
If you need her-find a way
But she's always-too much trouble-so you walk away

Storm

Storm
A soldiers glove found in the road
war's a lonely place
The flag is folded in the widow's lap
she'll never be the same
A little girl with a dirty face
she's never seen a doll
her daddy's off to look for a job
at the local corner bar
For all the lucky ones I wish you well
May you set your sail into the sun
But for all the broken ones
caught in the storm
take my hand - I need you the most
An old man shivers on a old park bench
cursing to the sky
the passersby don't see his face
because crazy is a lonely place
We measure our lives by dollar signs
real estate and fine wine
but some will pause and hear the call
of the wounded we leave behind
For all the lucky ones I wish you well
May you set your sail into the sun
But for all the broken ones
caught in the storm
take my hand - I need you the most
I hear you I hear you
I hear you
I hear you...

When The Morning Comes

WHEN THE MORNING COMES
Nothing to say
you packed you bags today
no ones really to blame
So we go on
and say our goodbyes
funny how all that love
drifted away
And I'll be dreaming
when your leaving
when the morning comes
and I'll be shattered
but so much stronger
when your gone
and I'll be broken
but so much smarter
when the day is done
and we'll be fine in time
we'll be fine
in time
Nothing to say
it hurts to feel this way
you were always my guy
So we go on
to some unknown place
and I'll try hard to feel safe
without you
